PEORIA, Ariz. – On Saturday afternoon, Mariners manager Scott Servais said he anticipated lefty specialist Charlie Furbush would be healthy and ready to go when Seattle opens the 2016 season against the Rangers at Globe Life Park on April 4.
Less than 24 hours later, Servais’ hopes had lessened after Furbush attempted to play catch on Saturday and was forced to stop because for tightness in the shoulder.
“He played catch briefly,” Servais said.
The plan is for Furbush to play catch again on Tuesday to see if the shoulder feels better. Still, he hasn’t thrown off a mound since Monday, March 7, when he threw a live batting practice session and felt ready to pitch in Cactus League games.
