Monroe defense comes through in easy win over Sedro-Woolley

MONROE – Monroe coach Michael Bumpus had one order for his team.

“Buy the defense some donuts because they saved you,” he yelled to the Bearcats in a postgame huddle. Monroe’s veteran defenders were active in the opening half to get the team scoring opportunities in a home matchup against Class 2A’s No. 9 Sedro-Woolley.

Led by senior Isaiah Lewis on offense, the Bearcats used good field position to defeat the Cubs 36-7 on Friday night. And the only letdown was giving up the one score to Sedro-Woolley.

“Offense did what we could do,” Lewis said.
