Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto today announced the following medical update on Mariners right-handed pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma:
Iwakuma underwent arthroscopic right shoulder debridement surgery on September 27. The surgery was performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas, Texas.
Following the surgery, Iwakuma is expected to resume throwing in 5 months.
Iwakuma, 36, went 0–2 with a 4.35 ERA (15 ER, 31.0 IP) with 16 strikeouts and 12 walks in 6 starts with the Mariners this season. He was placed on the 10-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation on May 10 (retroactive to May 7) before being transferred to the 60-day DL on July 24.
