When it comes to public opinion, Fernando Rodney's status as the Mariners closer has been rocky as of late. When it comes to Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon, though, Rodney's role is clear as day.
McClendon took time out of his postgame media availability to show support for his closer after Friday's 2-1 win over Cleveland – a win in which Rodney notched the save but gave up a run and put the tying run on third base.
"I've been known to stand up for my players, so I'm standing up for my closer. He's pretty damn good," McClendon said.
