If you grew up slightly nerdy in the ‘80s and ‘90s, especially here in the PNW, you, like me, probably eagerly flipped open the newspaper every morning and pulled out first the sports section, thickly inked with box scores, followed by the funny pages, where the precious real estate of the upper right corner was devoted to Gary Larson’s one-panel comic The Far Side. The Far Side was the thinking man’s comic, known for deep cuts based on Larson’s knowledge of various scientific fields including zoology and anthropology, and influenced by Larson’s experience growing up in the natural surroundings of the Seattle area.
