The Mariners will go back in time Saturday and honor the legendary Seattle Steelheads of the bygone Negro leagues, taking the field in throwback Steelheads uniforms against the Boston Red Sox in Seattle.
This is the second time the Mariners have honored the Steelheads, who played a sole season in 1946 as part of the West Coast Negro Baseball League. The M’s wore Steelheads throwback jerseys on Sept. 9, 1995, when the MLB was celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Negro leagues.
