A rough start from Felix Hernandez dooms the Mariners to a 4-3 defeat in Oakland
OAKLAND — The Mariners longest winning streak of the season ended at five games on Thursday with a forgettable 4-3 loss to the Oakland A’s.
An awful first inning from starter Felix Hernandez put the Mariners down early and they couldn’t quite come back against a cadre of A’s relievers, who were making a bullpen start.
The Mariners fell to 29-20 and return home to open a 10-game homestand on Friday night, starting with a three-game series vs. the Twins.
Hernandez gave up all four runs of his outing in the first inning and then settled in to retired 15 of the next 16 batters he faced.
