Mariners sign LHP James Paxton to Major League contract

The Mariners brought back one of the most effective pitchers in club history today, signing left-hander James Paxton to a Major League contract. Entering the 2021 season, Paxton holds a 3.42 ERA as a Mariner, sitting in a 4-way tie for the lowest ERA by a starting pitcher in club history with Félix Hernández, Randy Johnson and Hisashi Iwakuma (min. 500 IP).

On May 8, 2018, Paxton cemented his place in Mariners lore, tossing the 6th no-hitter in club history.

Paxton will bolster a Mariners rotation that already ranked in the top half of the American League during the 2020 season in numerous categories including ERA, strikeouts and wins.
