Following a scoreless first inning from both players, Seattle native Stevie Robinson jumped out to a 2–0 lead in the second inning on an Evan White, 2-out double to right-center field. Mariners infielder Daniel Vogelbach was unable to score in the bottom half as Robinson continued to deal on the mound, which opened the door for Robinson to extend his lead to 3–0 in the third inning with a Tom Murphy infield single.
