As expected, the Mariners received a needed boost Monday when shortstop Ketel Marte was activated from the 15-day disabled list and recalled from his rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Tacoma.
Outfielder Stefen Romero was optioned to the Rainiers, retroactive to Sunday, to make room on the 25-man roster.
The move, announced by GM Jerry Dipoto, comes a day after Romero made a pair of errors -- one mental, one physical -- in the Mariners' 3-2 loss to the Rangers on Sunday in Texas. The gaffes came in the fifth inning, first when Bobby Wilson hit a routine fly ball to Romero in left field.
