SURPRISE, Ariz. — The Mariners defeated the Kansas City Royals by a 10–8 score this afternoon at Surprise Stadium. Seattle scored a spring-high 10 runs on 14 hits over the course of the contest, with Julio Rodríguez, Luis Torrens and Jarred Kelenic each posting multi-hit efforts. Seattle plated runs in each of the final six innings.
The Mariners got on the board in the top of the first inning, using three consecutive singles by Julio Rodríguez, Abraham Toro and Luis Torrens to take an early 1–0 lead.
