The Mariners announced today that they are promoting 1B Tyler Locklear to Triple-A Tacoma, bringing him one step closer to potentially joining the big-league club after being drafted just two years ago. Locklear was a rare below-the-radar high draft pick coming out of VCU in 2022, a money-saving college pick in the second round, sandwiched between two prep picks in Cole Young and Walter Ford.
Mariners fans grew to know Locklear this spring, when he got an extended look with the big-league club during spring training. In 25 at-bats with the big-league club, Locklear collected eight hits, with three doubles and a home run.
