SEATTLE -- Veteran reliever Joaquin Benoit was placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Mariners on Monday due to inflammation in his right shoulder and right-hander Mayckol Guaipe was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma to take his place.
Benoit, 38, has been dealing with soreness in the shoulder most of the spring and was unavailable for several games last week. He is 1-0 with two holds and a 3.60 ERA with four strikeouts in five appearances so far as the Mariners' right-handed setup man.
