Seattle Mariners pitchers and catchers took the field for their first workout of the 2017 season on Wednesday after reporting to spring training in Peoria, Arizona, a day earlier.
Players like starting pitchers Felix Hernandez and Hisashi Iwakuma, closer Edwin Diaz and catcher Mike Zunino were among those running drills at the Peoria Sports Complex on a sunny Arizona afternoon with temperatures in the mid-70s.
Hernandez told reporters he came in at 224 pounds this season, 17 pounds heavier than he did ahead of an injury-marred 2016 campaign, after a winter working out with trainer "Iron" Glenn Freeman, who previously worked with Hernandez's M's teammates Robinson Cano and Nelson Cruz.
