The Mariners made their first cuts from their Major League spring training roster, re-assigning three players – left-handed pitchers Danny Hultzen and Brad Mills and outfielder Mike Baxter – to minor league camp.
Hultzen has been shut down from throwing after experiencing discomfort in his surgically repaired left shoulder a day after throwing a live batting practice session. It is another frustrating setback for the former No. 2 overall pick in 2011. Hultzen has been beset by shoulder problems for the last three seasons, including reconstructive surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff, labrum and capsule after the 2013 season.
