Mariners notebook: Joe Beimel placed on DL, Charlie Furbush has setback

It has not been a good second half of the season for the Mariners bullpen, and things didn't not improve on Friday for Seattle's embattled group of relievers.

The Mariners placed veteran lefty Joe Beimel on the 15-day disabled list with posterior inflammation in his shoulder, recalling Rob Rasmussen from Triple-A Tacoma to take the open roster spot just four days after demoting him. The bad news doesn't stop there, either -- another veteran southpaw, Charlie Furbush, is likely to miss the rest of the season after an MRI found a slight tear in his rotator cuff.

Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said Furbush, who has sidelined since July 7, will seek a second opinion before any decisions are made.
