In the fifth inning of yesterday’s game, Mariners shortstop Ketel Marte singled of pitcher John Lamb. After Kyle Seager flew out, and Robinson Cano at bat, Marte stole second base. While he was safe on the play, Marte dove into second base head first, subsequently hurting his left thumb. He remained in the game, even stealing third base shortly after. One inning later, Shawn O’Malley came in as a defensive substitute for Marte and took his place batting first in the order.
