The Seattle Mariners will be without the services of shortstop Ketel Marte while the 22-year-old recovers from a bout with mononucleosis in the latest injury to a key contributor for the club.
Marte hadn't played since Sunday and stayed in Seattle while the team embarked on an eight-game road trip on Thursday. Manager Scott Servais said further testing revealed Marte's diagnosis, which will land him on the disabled list.
"We did run some tests on him, and he's been diagnosed with some form of mono," Servais told reporters before Friday's game at Toronto.
