Mariners pitcher James Paxton is heading to the 15-day disabled list with a strained tendon in the middle finger of his pitching hand, and reliever Joe Beimel has been placed on the restricted list, manager Lloyd McClendon said Friday afternoon.
Paxton suffered the injury during his start in Thursday's 5-3 loss to Cleveland at Safeco Field. The left-hander allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings in the start.
Seattle has yet to make a corresponding move to replace his spot on the roster.
Lefty reliever Beimel, who is tending a personal matter, has been replaced by Lucas Luetge, another bullpen southpaw recalled from Triple-A Tacoma.
