Mariners have ‘flexibility” with starting rotation for upcoming series

After being short of starting pitchers for all of June and early July, the Mariners will have too many starting pitchers for the next 10 days. The quantity vs. quality can be debated.

Still, with three off days — Thursday, Monday (July 25) and next Thursday (July 28) — the Mariners don’t necessarily need five starting pitchers and could go with a four-man rotation for two turns of the rotation.

“We’ve got an opportunity to skip some guys,” manager Scott Servais said. “We don’t have a hard decision yet. I do not know that I would like to keep Felix (Hernandez) on a normal rotation.
