I was going to use a picture of Drew Thorpe, making his MLB debut tonight, for the header photo for this article, but he’s been with the White Sox such a short time the only pictures in the photo editor are of him in a Padres uniform. Traded twice in blockbuster trades for Juan Soto and Dylan Cease, Thorpe projects to be a very tough matchup for the Mariners hitters: he throws an excellent changeup, a pitch they’ve struggled with all year, that tunnels excellently with his fastball. Add to that the lack of familiarity that’s standard with any pitcher making a major-league debut, and it’s a recipe for yet another underwhelming offensive performance against a starter.
