"Larry Pedegana was a very important member of the Mariners organization from its inception in 1977 to 2006," Mariners president Kevin Mather said in the team's statement. "His contributions of his skill and advice and service to our franchise, our players and our training staff are too many to mention. Larry often went above and beyond to take care of the Mariners and our families. We are indebted to him for his dedication to Mariners baseball.
"On behalf of the Mariners, I extend my deepest sympathy to his family and many friends."
Pedegana was the team's first medical director and held that position until stepping down at the end of the 2006 season.
