NEW YORK — The Mariners’ bullpen continues to find new and imaginative ways to make sure that this stepback season is also a losing season.
Anthony Swarzak, who served as the ‘closer’ Tuesday, couldn’t protect a two-run lead, serving up a two-run double and Roenis Elias gave up a walk-off single to D.J. LeMahieu as the Yankees scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to rally for a 5-4 win over Seattle.
It was the third blown late-inning lead of the road trip, including two by Swarzak.
The bullpen was supposed to be a question mark coming into the season and there have been no good answers.
