SEATTLE -- About three hours before his scheduled first pitch for Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday night, Ross Detwiler learned he was needed by the Mariners. So the lefty made the 35-mile drive up Interstate-5 -- through rush-hour traffic -- in time to come out of the bullpen as an emergency long reliever after scheduled starter Mike Leake came down with an illness.
The 32-year-old southpaw wound up taking the loss in Seattle's 3-2 setback to the Astros, but threw six innings with three runs allowed in his first Major League action since 2016.
