Mariners DH Nelson Cruz named Silver Slugger

In a season full of ups and downs, the 2017 Seattle Mariners could seemingly always count on Nelson Cruz.

The 37-year-old designated hitter was named to the 2017 American League Silver Slugger team after leading the A.L. with 119 RBIs in 155 games and pacing the club in runs (91), home runs (39), walks (70), on-base percentage (.375), slugging percentage (.549), OPS (.924) and extra-base hits (67).

The award is Cruz's second Silver Slugger after he won as an outfielder in 2015. The award is based on a vote of major league managers and coaches.

Cruz, a five-time All-Star, has been remarkably consistent since signing a four-year, $57 million contract with Seattle in 2014, averaging 42 home runs and 106 RBIs over his first three seasons with the M's.
