The Mariners completed a small trade with the Brewers, swapping minor league players on the 40-man roster. Seattle picked up shortstop Luis Sardinas while sending outfielder Ramon Flores in return.
Sardinas, 22, is a light-hitting infielder with an above average glove at shortstop. According to an American League scout, Sardinas makes decent contact as a switch hitter, but has little power and doesn’t walk much. His upside is as a light-hitting shortstop, but the reality is that he’s probably a utility infielder.
It’s a depth move for the 40-man roster. He could be the backup to Ketel Marte or the starting shortstop for Class AAA Tacoma.
