The Seattle Mariners on Monday claimed right-hander Cody Martin off waivers and released reliever Logan Kensing in what marked Jerry Dipoto's first player acquisition since being hired as general manager.
Martin will take Kensing's place on the 40-man roster after he spent last season with the Braves and Athletics' organizations.
Martin, 26, combined this year to go 2-5 with a 7.92 ERA in 25 appearances (two starts) in the big leagues. He performed better in the minors, combining to go 5-7 with a 4.01 ERA in 18 games (17 starts) and one save with Atlanta and Oakland's Triple-A affiliates.
