One day after a head-scratching yet predictable roster move, the Mariners pulled off a trade that makes sense.
Seattle acquired left-hander Roenis Elias from the Red Sox Monday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. General Manager Jerry Dipoto traded the 29-year-old Elias to Boston along with young reliever Carson Smith in exchange for starter Wade Miley and reliever Jonathan Aro in December 2015 among the flurry of moves Dipoto made after taking control of the club.
Elias will report to Triple-A Tacoma. He was 1-0 with a save in four games with Triple-A Pawtucket this season, notching nine strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings pitched.
