The move, originally reported earlier this month, becomes official, completing the Mariners' 2019 coaching staff.
The Mariners on Monday made official the hiring of Tim Laker as their hitting coach, replacing Edgar Martinez, who is changing roles in the organization.
The Seattle Times first reported the Mariners would be hiring Laker, who turns 49 on Tuesday, earlier this month.
“Tim brings a great combination of both swing mechanics and offensive approach that I believe our hitters will connect with,” manager Scott Servais said in a news release.
Laker, a former catcher, played in the majors on and off from 1992 until 2006.
