ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Mariners announced that right-hander Christian Bergman will be recalled from Class AAA Tacoma on Friday and start in Felix Hernandez’s open spot in the rotation vs. the Rockies in Denver. Seattle bumped James Paxton from his projected start on Friday to start on Thursday in Anaheim, leaving an open spot.
With Rob Whalen on the minor league disabled list because of arm fatigue and veteran Ross Detwiler not on the 40-man roster, Bergman was the logical choice to fill in the spot in the rotation.
“Bergy came up when he had to fill in a spot when we had that doubleheader and did a really good job for us down before,” manager Scott Servais said.
