Mariners add two players to their 40-man roster

Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto continued to shuffle the bottom part of the team’s 40-man roster — something that is expected to continue over the next few weeks.

On Friday, the Mariners claimed catcher David Freitas from the Atlanta Braves. They also reinstated pitcher right-handed pitcher Rob Whalen from the restricted list to the 40-man roster — filling the two open spots.

Freitas, 28, made his Major League debut with the Braves as a September call-up this season, playing in six games. He hit .235 (4 for 17) with two runs scored and two RBI.
