We have the first Mariner moves of the new year.
On Thursday morning the Mariners announced they had released Anthony Bass, who was acquired in the deal for Leonys Martin, from his contract to pursue options in Japan. Then Thursday afternoon the team announced they had signed right-hander Ryan Cook to a one year deal reported to be worth $1.1 million.
"We're looking forward to seeing Ryan in a Mariners uniform," said general manager Jerry Dipoto in a press release. "He remains just 28 years old and is just one season removed from being one of the more effective setup relievers in the American League.
