KANSAS CITY -- Mariners utility man Shawn O'Malley, who has been recovering from surgery on his right shoulder since Spring Training, was activated off the 60-day disabled list and optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday.
The move puts O'Malley back on the Mariners' 40-man roster. To open a roster spot, right-handed pitcher Christian Bergman cleared waivers and was outrighted to Tacoma, which means he's no longer on the 40-man, but remains with the Rainiers.
O'Malley played his first rehab game with Tacoma on Thursday and went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in a 10-4 loss to Memphis.
