The Mariners activated shortstop Ketel Marte from the 15-day disabled list ahead of Monday night’s game against the Cleveland Indians at Safeco Field, the opener of a seven-game homestand.
Marte, who is hitting .276 with 14 RBI and five stolen bases this season, has been out since May 21 when he sprained his left thumb sliding into second base during a game at Cincinnati.
He appeared in five games during a rehab assignment with Class AAA Tacoma, hitting .200 with two steals.
To make room on the 25-man roster, the Mariners optioned outfielder Stefen Romero to Tacoma.
