In a move to add depth to a bullpen hit by injuries this spring, the Mariners acquired Padres reliever Nick Vincent on Wednesday for a player to be named later.
Vincent, 29, was in line to become San Diego's setup man, but he struggled this spring while allowing five runs over 8 1/3 innings with a save in nine appearances (5.40 ERA). It marked a sharp contrast from 2015, when the right-hander made four stints with the Padres and went 0-1 with a 2.35 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 26 appearances spanning 23 innings. In September, he made 13 appearances and didn't allow a run over 9 1/3 frames.
