This Thursday-Friday, March 13-14, is an exciting day for prospect-heads around MLB, as it will be the second annual installment of the Spring Breakout series, a showcase game designed to highlight the game’s top prospects. This game differs from the Futures Game, an MiLB version of the All-Star Game held during the All-Star break, because every team fields a complete team of prospects that play a full game, rather than the megasquads and brief appearances of a traditional All-Star game. Last year’s games in Arizona were unfortunately rained out, requiring makeup games later that killed a lot of the hype and bummed out prospect writers who had flown in specifically to see certain games, so we’re crossing our fingers for sunny skies this year.
