Mallex Smith ran away with the Major League stolen base crown for 2019, becoming the second Mariner in club history to lead the Majors in steals. Smith recorded 46 stolen bases this season — 3 more than Kansas City’s Adalberto Mondesi. He joins Ichiro Suzuki, who led the Majors with 56 steals as a rookie in 2001, as the only Mariners to pace all of baseball in stolen bases.
Smith’s 46 steals tied for 5th-most in club history and were the most by a Mariner since Ichiro’s record-setting season in 2001.
