Lookout Landing’s 2025 Prospect Rankings: #3 Lazaro Montes

You’ll hear Lazaro Montes before you see him.

Not that it’s hard to pick out Laz; in the press box during the Spring Breakout game, opposing writers who hadn’t gotten a chance to see the 6’5’ slugger were agog: “Holy [expletive], he’s enormous!” “How tall is he? Seven foot?” “He’s huge!”

But the gregarious Cuban carries a personality that matches his titanic size. In the minor league side of the spring training complex, his deep voice echoes up and down the hallways, signaling his presence without even needing to catch a glimpse of his imposing presence. Watch any of the spring training games this season, you’ll see Laz on the top rail of the dugout, cheering for everyone from his teammates from Modesto and Everett to undrafted free agents—and depending on the size of the crowd, you might hear him on the broadcast, too.
