When the Seattle Mariners announced Jerry Dipoto as their new general manager and executive vice president of baseball operations earlier this week, it was regarded as a rare savvy move by an organization with a long history of failed personnel decisions.
Unlike Jack Zduriencik, who was fired from the same post Aug. 28, Dipoto has an understanding of the SABR revolution that's fundamentally changed the way front offices evaluate players.
