Kyle Lewis of Mercer College wins Golden Spikes award

Outfielder Kyle Lewis of Mercer University was honored Thursday with the Golden Spikes Award as college baseball's top player.

Lewis, a junior, hit .395 with 20 home runs and 72 RBIs for Mercer. He was drafted by the Seattle Mariners with the 11th overall pick in June's amateur draft.

Lewis is the first Golden Spikes winner out of Mercer and the Southern Conference. He also was named to six All-America teams this season and was the Southern Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.

The other finalists for the award were outfielders Seth Beer of Clemson and Corey Ray of Louisville, and right-handed pitcher Logan Shore of Florida.
