Joel Peralta added to bullpen competition

General manager Jerry Dipoto added another contender to the Mariners rebuilt bullpen on Tuesday, signing veteran right-hander Joel Peralta to a one-year Minor League deal with an invitation to big league camp.

The 39-year-old went 3-1 with three saves and a 4.34 ERA in 29 innings for the Dodgers last year while spending nearly half the season on the disabled list with a sore right shoulder from April through June and a neck sprain in August. He allowed just two runs with 11 strikeouts and no walks over his final nine innings after rejoining the club for the final month and threw a perfect inning in his lone appearance in the National League Division Series.
