The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed Jesus Montero off waivers, bringing an end to the Mariner career of a player who never reached the heights the team expected after acquiring him in a trade in 2012.
The Jesus Montero era came to an end for the Mariners on Monday as he was claimed off waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Mariners had earlier designated Montero for assignment after a sluggish spring in which it became apparent he was not going to beat out Dae-Ho Lee for the job as a right-handed hitting first baseman.
Montero, 26, was the central figure of one of the most significant trades of the Jack Zduriencik era, acquired from the Yankees on Jan.
