The Mariners might be wheeling and dealing in Las Vegas, but they were also drafting.
They selected 27-year-old right-hander Brandon Brennan from the Colorado Rockies in Thursday’s Rule 5 draft on the final day of MLB’s winter meetings.
It came just before reports circled that the Mariners had traded first baseman Carlos Santana to the Cleveland Indians for 35-year-old designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion. And just after the Mariners announced general manager Jerry Dipoto had been taken to a hospital in Las Vegas out of precaution because he had been feeling ill since Tuesday.
What a morning.
