ANAHEIM -- Veteran right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma underwent surgery to repair the right shoulder issue that sidelined him most of the season on Wednesday, the Mariners announced Friday.
Iwakuma had arthroscopic debridement surgery performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas and is expected to be able to resume throwing in five months.
Iwakuma pitched just six games for Seattle this season, going 0-2 with a 4.35 ERA before being placed on the disabled list in early May. He attempted to come back all year, but was finally shut down two weeks ago when it became apparent he still wasn't able to throw competitively.
