How does the Mariners' 18-game home run streak compare to the hot starts of the past?

Eighteen games into what was supposed to be a down year, the Seattle Mariners are in rarified air. The club's explosive offensive start has been fun for fans to watch, but it's also historically significant: Seattle now holds the MLB record for most consecutive games with a home run to open a season.

Across the season's start, Seattle has pounded an MLB-best 39 home runs. Most recently, Mitch Haniger extended the streak with a lead-off long ball against the Houston Astros on Sunday. They've been pretty good at winning those games, too. The Ms are 13-5, and still on top of the AL West despite a sweep at the hands of the Astros last week.
