PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) - Homeless campers built an elaborate system of caves and tunnels at Simpson Park in Albany along the Willamette River.
Albany police discovered the camps a couple months ago -- they include an elaborate system of caves and tunnels big enough to stand up in, with places for candles to light the way from room to room, floorboards and window coverings, even a bathroom that dumped into the Willamette River.
The tunnels were built under old oak trees that are now dead or dying, so they'll have to be hauled away by arborists.
