One of the most effective pitchers in Mariners history has agreed to rejoin the Mariners staff, but this time as a coach: former Mariners pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma has re-joined the Mariners as a Special Assignment coach, and will report directly to Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto.
Iwakuma will begin his work with the club at Spring Training.
“Kuma has demonstrated throughout his career skills that we think will make him a perfect fit working with our coaches and players,” Dipoto said. “He was always prepared, has a terrific work ethic, and the ability to communicate the things that made him a successful pitcher.
