PEORIA, Ariz. — The Mariners fell to the Cleveland Guardians by an 8–4 score this afternoon at Peoria Stadium in their first game at Peoria Stadium this spring.
Mitch Haniger wasted no time in his return to the Mariners, homering in the bottom of the first inning off Tyler Beede in his first at-bat with Seattle since 2022. Haniger went 1-for-2 on the afternoon.
Seattle starter Jhonathan Díaz pitched a clean game, striking out four batters in two innings of work without allowing a baserunner.
Cleveland put up three runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 3–1 lead on three consecutive extra-base hits by Will Brennan, Gabriel Arias and Austin Hedges, with Brennan and Hedges homering.
