Half police car, half taxicabr used for DWI prevention

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KFOX14/CBS4) -- A vehicle with its front painted to look like a police car and a back resembling a taxicab is being used by police in Las Cruces, New Mexico to try and keep people from driving under the influence.

The Las Cruces Police Department showed off “Choose Your Ride” car Tuesday evening.

The concept of the car is to represent the choices people have when considering to drink and drive, said LCPD spokesman Dan Trujillo.

"The front of the car is painted in the colors of an LCPD police unit and shows an average cost of being arrested on a DWI charge, which is estimated at $7,000.
