Hal Childs, who was the Mariners first director of Public Relations in 1977, has died.
Childs was a mainstay of Seattle sports in the late 70s and mid-80s. In addition to his stint as the Mariners PR director (1976–1978), he was the first PR Director for the Seattle SuperSonics, founded in 1967. He was also involved in PR for the North American Soccer League Sounders and the Indoor Soccer Tacoma Stars.
He was an assistant general manager for the Golden State Warriors when they won the NBA Championship in 1975, and served as PR director for the University of Portland (from which he graduated), and for six years in the same role for the University of Oregon.
